Families and Group Visits

The museum offers plenty to discover and a range of activities for families.  Organised groups are always welcome. Groups are able to look around at their own pace or book a guided tour.

Why not try a group package for a personal celebration or company outing with a difference.

Guided tours

A special guided tour is available for groups of 10 or more. Groups are offered a fascinating insight into the history of this Grade II* listed Elizabethan townhouse, and a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived and worked here. They include the eccentric shopkeeper who sold stationery and founded the town's penny bank, and the redoubtable Mrs King.

The tour takes approximately 45 minutes, covering the period rooms and shop settings on the ground floor, after which groups are free to explore the four exhibition galleries upstairs. Browse in the museum shop, enjoy the beautiful walled garden and indulge yourself with a generous slice of homemade cake in the tearoom.

Tours of the Stores is a 30 minute talk about the collections held by the museum plus a 20 minute behind the scenes tour of the new museum stores.
