Family friendly fun event.
The museum is holding a family friendly fun event to celebrate its blossoming garden during the spring time on Saturday 29 April 2017. Entrance will be free between 10am and 4pm and from 12pm there is a chance to take part in children’s activities and tours around the garden, including tombola, plant a seed and an egg hunt. This event has been planned by two students volunteering from Bournemouth and Poole College, working with the museum.
Saturday's event is also a final opportunity for the public to have their say in the plans to refurbish the museum and make it fit for the 21st century. The Round 2 application to the Heritage Lottery Fund (for £982,200) will be submitted in November 2017.
Emma Ayling, Museum Director, commented "Extensive public consultation has already taken place with various organisations in the town and surrounding areas. More than 700 questionnaires have been filled in. All the information and opinions will be extremely useful in helping the museum formulate future policies without losing the vision of the founder, Hilda Coles. We hope parents and children will enjoy the activities and the museum. I look forward to meeting them and hearing their views."
The questionnaire can also be found on our website.
This exciting project will include refurbishment and enlarging of exhibition and display space; enhancing the story of the Grade II* listed historic townhouse itself; telling the story of the people who have lived in East Dorset through changing exhibitions; further developing the community engagement programme; and making the entire building more accessible to all. In addition, and importantly, Wimborne's Tourist Information Centre will be amalgamated within the museum, ensuring this vital community service remains in the heart of East Dorset.
