Free Christmas opening

Posted on 29 Nov 2013
Celebrate the Christmas period by visiting the museum from Saturday 7 to Saturday 21 December, excluding Saturday 14 December, (closed Sundays), 10.30 to 3.30. Admission is FREE, and the house and garden tearoom will be open and festively decorated.

Discover the fascinating childhood gallery and a unique Victorian Valentine card collection as the museum tells the story of East Dorset. Explore period rooms from a 17th century hall to the working Victorian kitchen, finding out how life and work has changed in this historic townhouse. Wander through a beautiful and peaceful walled garden. The special exhibitions 'Every Pitcher Tells a Story' and 'Suits You Sir' will still be on, along with a display on the history of Ferndown by Ferndown Historical Society.

The museum's hall will be transformed into the Victorian equivalent of a Christmas grotto. The table will be laden with a recreation of a sumptuous Victorian Christmas feast, while sculptured figures will depict scenes from Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'.

The garden tearoom will be open for visitors to relax and enjoy hot and cold drinks, delicious cakes, homemade soup and seasonal refreshments.
