Posted on 21 Oct 2014
The museum is running a Roman day school on Saturday 1 November, 10 to 4.30. A packed programme of excellent speakers is planned. Ciorstaidh Hayward Trevarthen, County Finds Liaison Officer, will speak on Roman finds in Dorset. Grace Jones, Doctoral candidate at Bournemouth University, will examine Iron Age and Roman pottery production around Poole Harbour, while John Smith, living history archaeologist, will discuss the Roman army at Lake Gates. Nancy Grace, National Trust archaeologist, will speak on new developments at Chedworth Villa and Lilian Ladle, archaeologist, will examine the new Roman villa discovered at Druce Farm. The day school is a unique opportunity to hear archaeological experts discussing real history on the doorstep. Tickets cost £6 (Museum Friends, East Dorset Antiquarian Society members and students £5), including entry to the museum and tea/coffee in the morning and afternoon. Tickets are available from Wimborne Tourist Information Centre or on 01202 886116 and booking is essential. This event has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
