Horology & Picture Postcards

Posted on 10 May 2014
The Friends of the Priest's House Museum invite you to a talk on 'Horology & Picture Postcards' with Chris McKay on Thursday 15 May, 7.30pm in the Hilda Coles Open Learning Centre at the museum. Chris McKay returns to once again entertain with his extensive knowledge of clocks - famous and lesser known! This time Chris will be looking at clocks through the eyes of the picture postcard. In Edwardian times the postcard was much the same as today's telephone or internet, a fast mode of communication. However, the cards were more than just a message; they visually recorded immediate events, the unusual, people, places and just the plain ordinary. As such picture postcards are a wonderful store of history both local and social. The talk will cover a wide range of horological connections, all illustrated by picture postcards. Tickets are available from the museum priced at £6, including refreshments (booking is essential). For further information or to book a place please contact the museum.
