New Entrance to the Museum

Posted on 27 Oct 2017

The entrance to the museum will be moving into the Wimborne Tourist Information Centre from the beginning of November, bringing these two popular local facilities closer together. The museum will be closed on Monday 30 October to allow essential works to take place.

From next month visitors to the museum will enter the historic townhouse and buy admission tickets in the Tourist Information Centre. There will be welcomers on hand to help people make the most of their visit and answer any questions. The changes will enhance the visitor's experience.

The Tourist Information Centre offers customers a number of valued services from National Express bookings to tickets for Salisbury Playhouse and local events. The shop stocks a wide range of local products, gifts and museum souvenirs.

Visitors can discover stunning Roman wall paintings, the fascinating childhood gallery and a unique Victorian Valentine card collection as the museum tells the story of East Dorset. Period rooms from a 17th century hall to the working Victorian kitchen show how life and work has changed in this historic townhouse. The beautiful walled garden features old varieties of fruit trees and colourful herbaceous borders. The Garden Tea Room offers space to relax and enjoy a refreshing drink, a selection of delicious cakes, a bowl of warming soup or light savoury snack.

The museum's well stocked secondhand bookshop will remain open for anyone wishing to pop in and browse, with access through the Tourist Information Centre. It will reopen with a refreshed range of quality books available.
