Make a Roman centurion with Darrell Wakelam

Posted on 05 Jul 2016
The museum is hosting artist Darrell Wakelam from 11 to 13 July. Darrell will be making a life size Roman centurion and members of the public are invited to come along and give him a hand. Darrell is an artist who works mainly with 3D models, sculptures and masks using cardboard construction, paper mache and collage techniques. He has provided art workshops for almost 25 years in schools, museums and theatres for a range of ages and abilities. As part of the run up to Wimborne History Festival, Darrell will be based at the museum to take on the challenge of constructing a life size Roman centurion. However, he needs your help to do this. Visitors are welcome to drop in at any time from 1.30 to 4.00 on Monday 11 July, and 10.30 to 4.00 on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 July. Visitors attending the workshop will be admitted to the museum for free. The finished artwork will be on display at the museum during the weekend of the Wimborne History Festival, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July. If you would like any further information please contact the museum. The event is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the thrilling new Wimborne History Festival.
