Kingston Lacy's Paintings

Posted on 11 Apr 2016
The museum is holding a talk on 'Kingston Lacy’s Paintings: The Story of One of the National Trust's Important Art Collections' with Helen Lange on Tuesday 26 April 2016, 7.30pm. The talk will begin with an explanation of the importance of the Bankes' art collection at Kingston Lacy, to the National Trust and to England. This will include a brief background on art collecting during the reign of Charles I. It will then trace the history of the Bankes collection, from its beginnings at Corfe Castle and the role of Sir Ralph Bankes, through the hugely significant contributions of William John Bankes in the 19th century. The talk will focus on several individual paintings, which have their own stories to tell. Helen has an MA in History of Art. Whilst working for this, she undertook a research project on the National Trust's conservation of the Kingston Lacy Art Collection. Helen is also the Chairperson of the Thomas Hardy Society. Tickets cost £6 and are available from Wimborne Tourist Information Centre or on 01202 886116. Booking is essential. Proceeds will go towards the care and conservation of the Priest's House Museum's collections. For further information please contact the museum.
