The museum is taking part in Dorset Architectural Heritage Week on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, 10.00 to 4.30, with free admission to the house, museum and garden on both days. Discover the museum's stunning Roman wall paintings, the fascinating childhood gallery and a unique Victorian Valentine card collection as the museum tells the story of East Dorset. Explore period rooms from a 17th century hall to the working Victorian kitchen, finding out how life and work has changed in this historic townhouse. Wander through a beautiful and peaceful walled garden, with flowering borders, lawns and heritage fruit trees leading down to the mill stream. The Garden Tea Room, where visitors can relax and enjoy a refreshing drink, delicious cakes, cream tea and a selection of light savoury snacks, will be open. Take the opportunity to view the new exhibition, 'For Home and Country - 100 Years of the Women's Institute'. The exhibition charts the development of the organisation from supporting food production during the first world war to its ongoing campaigns to improve the life of communities. The displays include a country kitchen set in 1915, beautiful examples of Dorset Feather Stitchery and Dorset Buttons, along with banners, scrapbooks and china from local WIs.
