Learning

We offer hands-on experience supporting the National Curriculum for schools. Our education programme includes sessions on the Victorians, the Second World War, the Romans and Toys. The Museum's Education Service has been awarded the Heritage Education Trust's Sandford Award.

Sessions

Life in Victorian Britain — Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
Hands-on activities in the Victorian Kitchen, Ironmonger's Shop, Schoolroom and Childhood Gallery.

The Romans — Key Stage 2
Handle Roman pottery, try on a toga, make a Roman mosaic, cook Roman food and experience a mini-excavation.

Toys — Key Stage 1
Examine how toys have changed, comparing past with present.

World War Two — Key Stage 2
Learn what life was like for children during the Second World War.

Object loan boxes relating to each of the above sessions are available.
