Clocks and watches have always performed tasks, from striking the hour to being an essential part of every appliance in our home.
The museum has worked with the British Horological Institute (Wessex Branch) and the Dorset Clock Society to stage 'The Three Faces of Time'.
The title refers to three themes - Decorative Time, Working Time and Dorset Time. Decorative Time covers clocks and watches that were intended to catch the eye as well as tell the time. Clocks and watches can be highly decorative, individual and make a statement about their owner. Working Time includes clocks that do jobs such as recording and controlling. Dorset Time addresses clocks by local makers. Dorset had many watch and clock makers, including Kerridge of Wimborne who made a model of the Minster Church's medieval astronomical clock.
