The museum occupies 10 rooms of a Grade II* listed historic townhouse. It has won various awards for its creative display and education programmes.
The museum offers offers a very active and lively community service managed on a highly professional basis. The museum has Accredited status.
The Priest's House Museum Trust is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. It is run by a Board of Trustees elected by Members of the Trust (the Friends).
The Trust works in partnership with East Dorset District Council, who employ two professional curators and maintain the fabric of the building.
The Trust's vision is the one held by its founder, Hilda Coles, who believed that the museum should be:
...a 'live' museum - a centre of education and culture, continually changing its displays and appealing to children as well as to adults.
